When Your Husband Cleans a Cabinet...
Updated: Jul 7
I have a cleaning plan for our home. Twice a month, I give the house a deep cleaning. I'm talking taking a toothbrush to the facets, cleaning the dust out of the intake grates kind of cleaning. The other two Fridays in the month, I give it a little once over by wiping down the countertops, cleaning the toilets and bathtubs, and moping the floors. It's a routine I've gotten into and it works well for me.
But Danny, God bless him, has decided to take over. He's been out of work since January due to surgery to correct a torn rotator cuff muscle. While the first eight weeks were terrible, he's finally feeling more like himself this past week and has come to a startling realization.
"You're terribly busy," he told me the other day.
It's true. I am busy, but I've been busy like this for decades now. My day consist of bringing order to our home, maintaining our financial health, caring for our parents, serving at my church and writing. This has been my life for the last ten years at least, and no one's ever mentioned my busyness before. While Danny knew I was busy, watching me has pushed him into action.
Last Friday on my light cleaning day, he volunteered to clean the kitchen and gracious gravy, it was awesome! Every square inch of the countertops was wiped down, the small appliances cleaned, then put away. The stainless steel on our stove and dishwasher haven't shined that much since the day they were installed!
After that, he started on the cabinets, cleaning out one each day as 'therapy' for his injured arm. I could almost weep, they're so beautiful! At the rate he's going, he'll have the entire house cleaned out before he returns to work.
There is such a thing as mom porn--it's watching your man do something for you.
